If you’re tired of being tired, this is for you.
I Hit a Wall
I’ll never forget the day I sat at my kitchen table, staring at twelve unread messages on my phone.
All from people who needed something.
“Kay, can you help me with…?” “Kay, what should I do about…?” “Kay, I need advice on…”
And I thought: “I have nothing left to give.”
Not because I didn’t care. But because I’d been running on empty for so long, I forgot what “full” felt like.
If you’re reading this and nodding your head, I need you to know something:
You’re not alone. And you’re not failing.
Why Are Christian Women So Exhausted?
According to recent studies, women report higher rates of burnout than ever before. But Christian women? We carry an extra layer of exhaustion that many people don’t see.
Here’s why:
1. We’re Everyone’s Go-To Person
You’re the one people call when:
- They need advice
- They need prayer
- They need a listening ear
- They need someone to hold it all together
You know everyone’s problems. Everyone’s struggles. Everyone’s needs.
But who do you go to when you’re the one who’s struggling?
2. We Feel Guilty for Being Tired
Here’s what we’ve been taught:
- “Good Christians don’t complain”
- “If you’re tired, just pray more”
- “Real faith means endless energy to serve”
So when we’re exhausted, we think: “What’s wrong with me? Why can’t I handle this?”
The Guilt is Almost Worse Than the Exhaustion.
3. We Carry Mental and Emotional Weight
It’s not just about being physically tired.
As Christian women, we carry:
- Everyone else’s problems in our heads
- Decisions that affect our families
- Emotional labor no one sees
- Spiritual responsibility for those we love
This mental exhaustion is real. And it’s crushing.
4. We’ve Been Told Rest Is Selfish
Somewhere along the way, we learned that:
- Self-care is worldly
- Rest means you’re lazy
- Taking time for yourself is selfish
- If you’re not serving, you’re failing
But here’s what nobody told us: God designed us to need rest.
What the Bible Really Says About Being Tired

Here’s the verse that changed everything for me:
“Come to me, all who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” — Matthew 11:28-30
Did you catch that?
Jesus said His Yoke is EASY and His burden is LIGHT.
If what you’re carrying feels crushing, overwhelming, and impossible—it might not be His yoke.
It might be:
- People-pleasing
- Perfectionism
- Guilt-driven service
- Saying yes to everything out of obligation
And Jesus is inviting you to put it down.
The Day I Realized I Couldn’t Do It All
For years, I was everyone’s go-to person.
Need advice? Call Kay. Need help deciding what to eat? Ask Kay. Need someone to listen? Kay’s available.
I knew everyone’s personal issues. Everyone’s struggles. Everyone’s needs.
But I had no time—or energy—left for my own.
I was:
- Mentally exhausted
- Emotionally drained
- Spiritually dry
And I felt incredibly guilty about all of it.
That’s when I realized something that changed everything:
God never asked me to be everything to everyone. That’s HIS job, not mine.
I wasn’t failing because I was tired. I was tired because I was carrying burdens I was never meant to carry alone.
Signs You’re Carrying Too Much
You might be exhausted if:
Physically:
- You’re tired even after sleeping
- You get sick frequently
- You have tension headaches or body aches
- You feel drained by mid-morning
Mentally:
- Your mind races even when you’re trying to rest
- You can’t remember simple things
- You feel foggy or unfocused
- You have trouble making decisions
Emotionally:
- You’re irritable with people you love
- Small things feel overwhelming
- You cry more easily than usual
- You feel numb or emotionally flat
Spiritually:
- Prayer feels like a chore
- Reading your Bible feels empty
- You’re going through the motions
- You feel distant from God
If any of these resonate, you’re not alone.
What God Wants You to Know About Your Exhaustion
1. Your Exhaustion Is Not a Spiritual Failure
Being tired doesn’t mean you lack faith. It means you’re human.
God designed you with limits. And honoring those limits isn’t rebellion—it’s obedience to His design.
2. Rest Is Biblical, Not Selfish
God rested on the seventh day—not because He was tired, but because rest is part of His design for us (Genesis 2:2-3).
Sabbath rest isn’t optional. It’s a gift.
3. You’re Allowed to Say No
Jesus said no to crowds who wanted more from Him (Mark 1:35-38). He withdrew to rest even when people needed healing (Luke 5:15-16).
If Jesus needed boundaries, so do you.
4. God Sees You
Even when no one else notices how tired you are, God does.
“The LORD is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.” — Psalm 34:18
He doesn’t distance Himself from your exhaustion. He moves closer.
What Helped Me Find Rest (And Can Help You Too)

I Started Saying “Not Today”
Not “no” to everything. Just “not today” to things that could wait.
- A phone call I didn’t have energy for
- A commitment I could postpone
- A favor someone asked that wasn’t urgent
Saying “not today” to Someone Else Was Saying “yes” to Myself.
I Let Go of Guilt-Driven Service
I stopped serving out of obligation and started serving from overflow.
If I didn’t have the energy, I said so. And I stopped apologizing for it.
Turns out, God was more pleased with my honesty than my exhausted yes.
I Asked for Help
This was the hardest one.
I’d spent years being everyone’s helper. Admitting I needed help felt like failure.
But here’s what I learned: Asking for help isn’t weakness. It’s wisdom.
I Created a Simple Rest Routine
Not a complicated self-care regimen. Just small, sustainable moments of rest:
- 10 minutes of quiet in the morning
- A walk outside (even just 5 minutes)
- Saying no to one thing each week
- Going to bed 30 minutes earlier
Small changes. Big difference.
